The Pomeranian is a proud and eloquent small dog. It is very smart, eager to learn new things, and loyal to its owner and family. The Pomeranian is a nice companion and makes for a great show dog. It is very docile and affectionate to those around it.
It is an active dog, and one of the more independent of the toy breeds. Its liveliness makes it a well-liked dog, even by persons who do not usually care for dogs. They are thrifty eaters, and never eat a whole lot, often being picky with what they want for food. If introduced well enough, they get along with other dogs and other house pets very well.
Despite their small size, they still make for a good guard dog. They will bark when there’s a knock at the door or they hear a doorbell. If spoiled, they are likely to fall victim to small dog syndrome, so it is always important to be firm yet patient when training them so they know where they stand with their owners. They can also fall victim to separation anxiety, and do not like to be left alone away from their owners. This is one of the few behavior problems they may get from improper training.
