The Collie is a medium to large dog, originally bred for herding livestock. It is strong, lean, has great speed, and has the flexibility to change directions swiftly. The body is slightly longer than the tail, and the neck is fairly long for a dog. It has straight legs and small ears. There are breeds of Collies with a rough coat, and others with a smooth coat. There is usually a mane formed by the coat around the neck and chest which gives it a graceful air when it’s running.

The Collie is a highly intelligent dog. It is loyal, sensitive, easy to train, and mild-mannered. They are a clean breed, and you will be able to housetrain easily. The Collie is friendly with other dogs and pets. Naturally, they are herders, and like other herders, you should ensure when they are young to teach them not to try to herd people. They are very energetic outdoors, and you need to socialize them well so they don’t get wary of strangers. They can be apartment dogs, but they will still require a lot of exercises.

The Collie is a relatively low maintenance dog, just needing a brush of its coat once a week. They are also generally healthy dogs, although their nose can be sensitive in the sun and may require sunblock.
