The Golden Retriever is a tireless and hardworking large breed dog that has long been the preferred companion of hunters for its ability to retrieve game and is perfectly adapted for the duties of a guide dog, and for search and rescue. With its high endurance, energy, strong legs and neck, and wavy, water-resistant coat, it does well on both land and water. It is also a family favorite since it is known for its friendly, kind nature, its intelligence, and loyalty.

This large dog is also enthusiastic and energetic and requires ample exercise, long walks, playtime, and a yard with a good fence to prevent it from roaming. As its name suggests, the Golden Retriever loves playing fetch and will do so tirelessly.

The lush coat of the Golden Retriever comes in a variety of light and dark gold colors, however, some may be white, red, or even black. The coat does require brushing, and they do benefit from regular bathing.

Retrievers may suffer from various diseases and some skin problems. Especially friendly around people, livestock, and other pets, they are the perfect family pet and are ideal for those who can provide them with companionship and ample room to exercise.
