Saint Bernard is a very large and tall animal. They are strong, muscular, and powerful dogs. Saint Bernard has droopy jowls and is known to slobber. This dog is best known for being used as a service animal for search and rescue. They are excellent for trekking in the deep snow for long distances, and with their keen sense of smell, they can find that lost person or animal.

Saint Bernard is a loving dog and due to its patient and gentle disposition, they can be the perfect pets for children. Whereas they are not extremely playful, they are wonderful to cuddle up with and love. They are protective of their owners. They have a deep bark, but will only bark when there is a reason. For example, if someone is knocking at the door, the St. Bernard will bark a warning. This breed can be stubborn and its large size makes it unsuitable for many homes, but with the proper training, it is manageable.

Due to the size of the dog, it is in danger of health issues if it does not receive the right nutrition and exercise. They also suffer from hereditary eye disorders, epilepsy, and bone cancer.
