A Vizsla is a medium-sized sporting dog that is great for active owners who are outdoors a lot. They are natural hunters with an excellent nose. They are high-energy dogs and require a lot of strenuous exercises every day. They need to run or jog, so a daily walk will just not do. They can get frustrated and destructive if they don’t get enough exercise.
This dog is not meant for apartment living due to their tendency to be excitable. They are also not suited for being kept outdoors because, unlike most dogs, they don’t have an undercoat. They have a short coat and don’t need frequent baths. The Vizsla is also famous for not having a ‘doggy’ odor because they keep themselves clean.
It is important to have them obedience trained, or they can become unmanageable. Vizslas can be stubborn and even overly excitable. They are easily trained but require a gentle hand when doing so. Harsh training can damage this dog due to its sensitive nature. They are known as ‘Velcro’ dogs because of the close bond they develop with their owners. They thrive on attention and can whine and cry to let you know they aren’t happy.
