The medium-sized West Highland White Terrier is ranked among the most preferred dog breeds as they are friendly and active. The round-faced Westie has a unique white double coat, with the undercoat being soft and dense, and the outer coat appearing hard. They have almond-shaped deep-set eyes that are very bright. Possessing a body that’s shorter than its shoulder height, the Terrier’s paws offer a powerful grip that helps them to climb rough surfaces with better control. The small-made breed has a black nose and triangular-shaped ears that remain erect and pointed. West Highland White Terriers have a dwarf tail and short legs.
Unlike other similar breeds, West Highland White Terriers do not suffer from luxating patella, a condition wherein the kneecap gets dislocated. Children, in particular, will enjoy the company of Terriers, and the feeling will be mutual. This hardy breed behaves well during training and shows immense interest in exercise. Preferring to be independent, Terriers are self-confident and can be counted upon to play the role of a watchdog to perfection.
The sturdy West Highland White Terrier is a loyal breed that always expects their owners to keep pace with them while on the move.
