Dog food?

Hi everyone! We have a beautiful 6 year old rescue, Sheperd/ Coonhound mix named Miley. We have been experimenting with different dog food for the past year hoping to find just the right mix. Thus far she enjoys Blue Buffalo (Adult Chicken). Considering the breed and weight (75lbs) what are your personal recommendations?

Oh, btw we want to avoid wheats and grains and feed her “real meat” only, therefore keep that in mind when suggesting different dog food. Thanks!

I always like to recommend a raw or fresh diet, but I know not everyone likes to mess with that and prefers/needs the convenience of a kibble. That said, as far as kibbles go I highly recommend Orijen, Acana, Fromm, American Natural Premium or NutriSource.  Blue Buffalo’s ingredient quality has dropped significantly in the last few years, they used to be pretty good.

You also should check out dogfoodadvisor.com  They have a rating system for best to worst foods and break down the descriptions of ingredients and what role they play in the dog’s body. It’s a nifty tool for any dog owner.  Good luck!

Wilderness by blue buffalo. Dog food advisor.com gives it five stars based on the ingredients. Check this website before you buy.

Im afraid she’s nit active enough for wilderness so I have her on Regular Adult (blue)

blue buffalo is a good brand .  I’ve had my dog on  it for a while before i used to feed him purina but he would always bring it back up. Blue Buffalo is awesome.

Yes, so far Blue has done the trick…and no more rashes! 🙂

My little rescue dog eats Earthborn Coastal Catch dry food, partly because its quite good (4.5 out of 5 on dogfoodadvisor.com) and partly because she doesn’t like anything else! She’s a picky girl, despite coming from a shelter situation, and she loves this food.

I agree with AussieLover.  Raw / fresh is the best option, but if you want to use a grain free, quality kibble, I’d look at Orijen, Acana, Fromm & Earthborn Holistic (other options available).  Blue Wilderness is not a bad food, but a bit overpriced (remember to consider it is a 24 lb bag when comparing prices).  All of the other brands I mentioned have a frequent buyer program (ask your local retail store if they take part).
