I have never ‘bought’ a dog. My dogs have always come from either ‘free puppy’ ads or from the local humane association. I love mixed breed dogs and find them to be healthier and have better dispositions than most pure breds. I highly recommend rescuing your next dog from a shelter. They are usually very grateful!
Our first dog was adopted from Petfinder and our second dog wandered up to our house last year. I agree those types of dogs (adopted/strays/etc.) make the best because they are THANKFUL for their homes and for you taking them in.
I totally agree. I adopted the dog I have now from the Humane Society and she’s the best dog I’ve ever had. She’s incredibly obedient and has been very easy to train. She doesn’t bark very much and she’s not destructive at all. I can leave her out of her crate when I have to leave the apartment and she’s always laying on the couch waiting for me to get home. Adoption is the way to go! 🙂
I have 3 rescued dogs…all pure bred dogs. A lot of people who want a pure bred dog aren’t aware that there are local rescues for just about every breed (as well as mixed breed). I have two Siberian Huskies and a Chihuahua (all from local rescue organizations).
I always encourage people to adopt / rescue. For anyone who insists on buying a dog, please do your research to find a reputable breeder (do NOT buy from a pet store….they are most likely puppy mill dogs)
Please Adopt a doggy or puppy it may even be more healthier than one you purchased at a store…Overbreeding and that sort of thing…Mutts appear to be the best dogs really!!! I have used this shelter for abused animals in the past and have now 3 wonderful doggies!!! http://www.crowdrise.com/HAAC Good luck and love your pet!!!
I have also adopted my dog . At the beginning I had no idea how the dog will look like. Now? This is the most beautiful and the best dog ever. And what is most important? Mixed breeds are not prone to diseases, and so far I can confirm this because I haven’t had any problems, except at the beginning when we brought her, had minor problems with their ears, because from where I got her were very unsanitary conditions. But we also edited that and now is healthy and happy 🙂 It was the best decision that I adopted her.
