Can anyone give me any advise regarding arthritis?

One of my dogs, is getting on abit now. Hes suffered pretty badly over the last year with arthritis, and he seems to be getting worse recently. I’ve tried all sorts, including changing his diet with no effect yet.

He loves exercise, but he’s finding the daily play in the park more and more of a struggle.
Is there anything I can try?

Thanks.

I can only recommend you to talk to a vet. He can give you special medicine for your dog. You should also conserve his joints and be sure that he doesn’t jump to much. You can also cool his joints.

As far as medicines go, a friend of mine uses Tramadol on her dog and says it helps. Moderate exercise is good but make sure you don’t let your dog jump up or expend too much energy as that can actually make things worse. I’ve also heard swimming is great if you can.

How is your dog’s weight?

Keeping him active is important.  You can try adding a glucosamine complex to his diet (Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, Vitamin C, etc)  There are quite a few options available.  I give my dogs Nupro (and they love it).

Have you tried a raw diet?  That might also help.  You can also look at natural foods that have anti-inflammatory properties (celery, tumeric, etc.)

Hi,

this is my 1st post. I have 2 fourteen year old Yorkies and a four year old.

One Yorkie has arthritis but I have just found out he has Cushing. He is on Loxicom for arthritis.

I have a friend who has started using flax oil which he thinks it is great, his dog is either 16 or 17 as it was a rescue hes not sure
