I am still new to the horse world, but very confident both in the saddle and on the ground. I have considered for a long time now that I want to compete in endurance because it just seems like something fun and right up my alley. I don’t have a horse, though!
I have been considering breeds other than the Arabian. I know that they are meant specifically for long distance riding but I seriously don’t think they’re the horse for me. I know that any breed and size can technically enter a LD or endurance ride, but I want something that will not just be in great condition by the end of it, but also enjoy it. I’m really attracted to draft breeds, but know that won’t work for this kind of riding (I really want a Fjord!!) So I was thinking about spotted saddle horses. Anyone have an idea on how well these horses perform in LD or endurance riding? I know that conditioning plays a big role, but as a breed what do you think?
You may also consider a gaited breed. And I hear Morgan’s make good endurance horses, as well as Mustangs.
I considered both of those breeds as well. Now I’m thinking of caving and just going with an arab or arab cross (there is one with mustang in his pedigree on equinenow)
