Hi Sue! Welcome to the forum!!  What kind of dog do you have?

Most reputable breeders will retire a bitch at around the 7 year mark because after that point it can raise risks during pregnancy and labor.  I would retire her, get her spayed, and if you want to breed to better the collie breed look into getting a mentor and acquiring another puppy to raise as a possible future candidate. Don’t forget to make sure it’s an ethical, reputable breeder with proven health testing 😉

I always like to recommend a raw or fresh diet, but I know not everyone likes to mess with that and prefers/needs the convenience of a kibble. That said, as far as kibbles go I highly recommend Orijen, Acana, Fromm, American Natural Premium or NutriSource.  Blue Buffalo’s ingredient quality has dropped significantly in the last few years, they used to be pretty good.

You also should check out dogfoodadvisor.com  They have a rating system for best to worst foods and break down the descriptions of ingredients and what role they play in the dog’s body. It’s a nifty tool for any dog owner.  Good luck!

If she hasn’t be trained to heel nicely and do stops, back ups, and side changes as you would through advanced or competitive obedience, maybe give that a whirl. Introduce it inside first until she gets the hang of it, then while out on a walk you can do some heel work with her and mix it up a bit!

A toy poodle was the first purebred dog I had growing up. We got her when she was 5 years old and I was right around 8 years old or so.  She was my introduction into dog training as she taught me how to teach obedience, tricks, and agility with household items. lol. She passed at 11 years old and I haven’t had another poodle since. Thought about getting one before getting into Aussies but didn’t like the breeders around me. Maybe one day I’ll try another toy or mini poodle!
